Need a poster RIGHT NOW? Here’s your summary:

“A poster that communicates ONE thing is more effective than a poster which fails to communicate ONE THOUSAND things.” -Mike Morrison, PhD

The #betterposter collection is designed to clearly communicate the most important result from your research and prompt viewers to ask better questions during an online or in person session. These poster templates are built as "billboards" to grab attention for your research and not meant to include every detail. That information belongs in your full paper or article, and can be linked via QR code. See instructions below.

How to incorporate poster elements

  • Fonts

Picture a highway exit sign or billboard: a few words in a plain font make the message understandable to an audience on the move at a distance. Consider one of these options for most of your poster text:

    • Baskerville
    • Calibri
    • Georgia
    • Gill Sans
    • Lucida
    • Trebuchet
    • Univers
    • Verdana

Choose a more interesting font for your main statement:

    • Bernhard
    • Brittanic Bold
    • Cooper Black
    • Eras
    • Impact
    • Rockwell
    • And, yes: even Comic Sans has its place (it's one of the more readable fonts for some people with dyslexia1.
  • Images

Images add interest to your poster. Here are some sources:

  • Labels

While an institutional label is not necessary, it can still be incorporated if requested or required.

    • Do: Place the label in a corner, with required space from the edges
    • Don't: Change the ratio of the label – always resize by dragging from a corner, never the top or sides
    • Do: Download the appropriate label from your institution – taking into consideration background color, and horizontal or vertical shape needs
    • Don't: Copy a licensed (i.e., an athletics use only) logo from the internet
    • If you have questions about the correct label and/or the usage, please contact your marketing or communications representative prior to finalizing your #BetterPoster.
  • QR Codes
    • How do I create a QR code?qrcode-monkey.com is free, URLs don’t expire, and you can add cool features like images.
    • How do I scan a QR code? Just pull out your phone and take a picture! All modern iPhones and most Android phones have built-in QR detection in their cameras. Some Android phones may need an app.
    • How can I link the QR to my paper and a copy of my poster and my contact details? Try creating a multi-page link for free via linktr.ee
