Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) play a critical role seeking justice for a survivor. Nearly 80 percent of rapes and sexual assaults go unreported, in part because of a severe shortage of these licensed health care providers, who help properly secure evidence from survivors of sexual assault, which can lead to higher prosecution rates. SANE-certified nurses conduct forensic medical examinations, as well as provide survivors with physical and mental health care to help deal with the trauma.

The partnership between the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences and the GJFC ensures SANEs can be trained in proper evidence collection through education initiatives funded by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
