Military Support

Florida International University’s Department of the National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) trains, equips, and supports Department of War military service members, civilians, contractors, and international partners with advanced forensic and biometric capabilities that help identify and attribute national security threat actors.

Since 2007, NFSTC has provided specialized training, equipment sustainment, test and evaluation, forensic science expertise, and 24/7 reachback support to organizations within the Department of War enabling operators, law enforcement, and intelligence analysts to recognize, document, collect, protect, and analyze evidence in complex operational environments. Drawing on extensive experience conducting forensic investigations in hazardous and contested environments, NFSTC develops field-ready enablers who transform evidence into actionable intelligence.

By uniting cutting-edge research with practical evaluation of techniques and equipment, our subject matter experts strengthen operational capability and support mission success across the global security enterprise.

Forensic Services, at the Speed of SOF

  • Identity Intelligence (I2)

Raw exploitation collections are fused with other intelligence and contextual information to produce useful and actionable intelligence products that help customers quickly identify and verify potential threats in CONUS, OCONUS Forward Operations Base settings.

Our SMEs have a comprehensive period of instruction for I2 analysis. All new analysts are trained in customer standard operating procedures (SOPs) and community of interest best practices. Our analyst trainers can work along or in conjunction with technicians to provide training to tactical users of the I2 architecture, DoD schoolhouses, and interagency intelligence community partners. After completion of coursework, newly-trained analysts can work side-by-side with digital forensic examiners to provide immediate or near real-time analytical support to tactical operations.

  • T&E

New technology requires technically rigorous and realistic test and evaluation before introduction into service. Proper data collection is vital to:

    • Demonstrate technical and functional capability
    • Identify and solve deficiencies during development
    • Support decisions on acquisition or fielding

Evaluations include user-experience items like controls, screen readability, and SWaP (size, weight, and power). User manuals and troubleshooting instructions can be evaluated in a Limited User Assessment (LUA) test bed to provide a complete picture of how a piece of technology will work in the field or could be improved. Our state-of-the-art laboratories maintain valid DEA and ATF licenses, allowing for real world sample testing.

  • Secured Meeting Space

Our Largo, FL offices are a cleared facility, offering secured discussion and collaboration spaces. With controlled access and an on-site Facility Security Officer, we can host groups up to 50 with full briefing capabilities.
