The Global Forensic and Justice Center is excited to announce the Digital Forensics Examiner Professional Program. Three eight-week courses tailored to specific aspects of this growing and in-demand field will launch in 2025.
“There are more mobile phones than people in the world,” says Matt Ruddell, instructor for the new digital forensic courses. “Digital evidence is all around us. These courses are designed to help participants learn to locate, extract, and interpret this evidence so it can be used in an investigation.”
The 40-hour courses are open to the public, and designed for new digital analysts or transitioning professionals, including former military.
- Digital Forensics Fundamental Skills This course introduces the science of digital forensics from the ground up, providing participants with a solid foundation to build the knowledge necessary for a career in digital forensics. This is a requirement for all other courses in the program. Key concepts include the principles and methodologies of digital forensics, data recovery and analysis techniques, legal and ethical considerations, and an overview of specialized forensic tools and software used to conduct forensic examinations on digital devices. A Micro-Credential can be earned with successful completion of the course and final reflection.
- Introduction to Mobile Forensics This course provides a comprehensive introduction to mobile forensics, offering insights from a forensic analyst’s perspective on conducting mobile device. The curriculum covers fundamental concepts of mobile devices, the technology underlying wireless networks, the use of mobile forensic tools, established forensic methodologies, and best practices for evidence handling. A Micro-Credential can be earned with successful completion of the course and final reflection.
- Network Forensics – Examination and Analysis This course delves into the specialized field of network forensics, highlighting its integral role within the broader realm of digital forensics. Participants will explore methods for monitoring, capturing, and analyzing network traffic to uncover evidence of cybercrimes and security breaches. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of network forensics in identifying and understanding network-based attacks, tracing intruders, and ensuring the integrity of digital investigations. A certificate of completion will be issued to students successfully completing the course.
“This program was created with the end-user in mind. Students should be able to take the course and immediately be able to implement the skills on the job,” says Ruddell. For those new the field, he says the students/participants can, “use the knowledge as a solid foundation to get a job in the field or continue on to more specialize training.”
The first course starts January 6, 2025. Each course is $1,495 and is scheduled to fit into a working professional’s schedule. Visit go.fiu.edu/DigitalForensics to learn more and enroll today.
